That's right, it's an icon. It has its own name: the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was the kindest, most modest on earth, so She became the mother of God. She was always with her son, helping His affairs in everything. Out of all her kindness and love for people, she always prays for us before her Son. And He, as the Son, always listens attentively to Her prayers and saves those for whom She intercedes. The Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary tells about one of these cases. On October 14 we celebrate the church holiday - “Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos”. Now I will tell you about this holiday.

One of the most beloved holidays in Rus' is associated with the name of the Mother of God - “Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary”. An ancient legend tells about an amazing event that happened a long time ago, more than a thousand years ago, in the country of Byzantium, far from Rus'. The large city of Constantinople was surrounded by Saracen enemies who wanted to capture the city and turn all the inhabitants into slaves. And then the residents of the city gathered in the temple, in which the shrine was carefully kept - the head veil (cover) of the Virgin Mary. People prayed for a long time with tears to the Lord and the Mother of God, asking for help and intercession from evil enemies. At night, one of the praying people, Saint Andrew, saw the Mother of God descend from heaven, take off her veil from her head and cover it with the people standing in the church praying. This cover shone more than the sun's rays. This cover is also called an omophorion. Then the Mother of God rose again to the sky, the cover became invisible. And when dawn came, morning, the residents of the city saw that the enemy, in fear, was quickly running away from the walls of the city of Constantinople.

And at that time it began to snow heavily, covering the entire earth.

If you look closely at this painting,

you will see that it depicts the inhabitants of the city who have gathered in the temple of the Blessed Virgin Mary and ask the Virgin Mary for protection from enemies.

  • On the gray autumn clouds, the Mother of God entered the temple.
  • She knelt down and prayed in front of the image of her son.
  • And over everyone who is ready to believe, she spread her holy cover.
  • It is made of heavenly light, weightless and transparent in appearance.
  • He will protect you from sorrows and troubles...

Autumn is a wonderful time of year. This is not only the time of bright leaf fall, but also many interesting events. On the eve of the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an interesting and exciting project “Hello, Father Intercession!” was implemented in the kindergarten at Staritsa station.

This holiday is one of the most revered holidays, celebrated in many families in the fall. During the project, children got acquainted with the history of the holiday, watched presentations about the Intercession and reflected their impressions in drawings and crafts. The essence of the celebration of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos is not easy for children to understand, but we tried to convey it to our students in an accessible form.

On October 14, a bright, beautiful, spectacular event “Hello, Father Pokrov” took place in the senior preparatory group of our kindergarten. The guys recited poems, sang songs, danced, played games, learned a lot of new and interesting things, for example, the fact that the Feast of the Intercession marks the beginning of autumn in Rus' and is associated with the end of agricultural work and the time of festive festivities.

The holiday program included wedding ceremonies, gatherings, fair scenes: buying and selling, calls from barkers and sellers. The young participants danced the “Jolly Spooners” dance, sang ditties, performed round dances, and played a lot of folk games. The orchestra of noise instruments cheerfully and fervently sang the Russian folk song “In the Forge.”

“Fire fair! The fair is dancing and hot! Look to the left - shops with goods!

Look to the right - fun for nothing! The students and their parents were pleased to present their works - a variety of crafts that impressed with the originality of the idea, the technique of execution, the originality and uniqueness. The fair turned out to be varied and interesting. Many thanks to moms, dads, grandparents and our wonderful children for their golden hands and responsiveness. We firmly believe that the beauty of Russian melodies, the wisdom of oral folk art, “the legends of deep antiquity” will teach our children only good things, and the seeds we sow in their souls will bear good fruit!
